I have always thought that one of the most courageous things that you can do in life is to be yourself.
And, it turns out, I am not the only one who thinks that.
Poet E.E. Cummings said, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”
Knowing and being who you are is key to doing what you love.
One of my most impactful teachers, Wayne Dyer, tells us to never forget that doing what you love is the cornerstone of having success in your life. We shouldn’t wake up dreading our workday and wishing we were doing just about anything else. Creating a life that you love gives you more energy, passion, and happiness, which is a success of its own -- and monetary success is sure to follow.
But – it takes courage to be who you are. The world is full of people who want to tell you who you are and what to be. People who don’t know you try to set expectations for you and your life.
Have the courage to think for yourself.
There are a lot of virtues, but as Maya Angelou says, “Courage is the most important of all the virtues because, without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently.”
