Local Charity Highlight - FoCo Cafe

Writer: Steve MartinSteve Martin

One of Purposeful Financial and Legacy Planning's key values is to support the local community. In support of that value, we will highlight a Northern Colorado charity each month. Additionally, we support that charity with a donation.

This month we are highlighting the FoCo Cafe, the first nonprofit restaurant in Fort Collins, CO. Founded in 2014, the cafe's mission is "to build community by providing nutritious and delicious meals to the people of Fort Collins regardless of their ability to pay while using mostly local, organic, and sustainably grown ingredients" and to provide a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and respected.

The FoCo Cafe operates on a pay-what-you-can model, which means that patrons pay what they can afford for their meals. For those who cannot afford to pay, they can exchange their time and energy by volunteering at the cafe or helping out with community service projects.

What sets the FoCo Cafe apart from other restaurants is its commitment to using locally-sourced, organic ingredients in its dishes. The menu changes regularly, depending on what ingredients are in season, but customers can expect to find a variety of healthy and delicious options, from salads and sandwiches to soups and stews. Delivery is available through NoCo Nosh, and they also offer catering options for events.

The FoCo Cafe is more than just a place to grab a bite to eat. It's a community hub where people can come together, connect with others, and engage in meaningful conversations. The cafe hosts regular events and activities, including live music performances, poetry readings, and community discussions along with their Kids Feeding Kids Summer Program.

In addition to its commitment to providing healthy and delicious food, the FoCo Cafe is also dedicated to reducing food waste. The cafe partners with local businesses to collect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and repurposes it into nutritious meals.

The FoCo Cafe's impact extends beyond its doors. It is actively involved in community service projects and works with local organizations to address issues related to food insecurity and homelessness. The cafe's outreach programs have touched the lives of many people in the community, providing them with food, shelter, and hope.
