The Territory

Explorers throughout history have stood at the edges of their maps, where the known world ended and cartographers wrote: "Here be dragons."
You stand at such an edge now, except the territory before you isn't merely unknown—it's unprecedented. Things that have never been.
This matters more than we usually acknowledge. Unknown territory might have been explored by others. Unprecedented territory has never been explored by anyone, ever. You're not following someone else's trail. You're creating the trail.
Every January 1st, every human on earth becomes an explorer of things that have never been. Not things that haven't happened to you personally—things that haven't happened to anyone, anywhere, in any time.
The specific confluence of circumstances you'll navigate this year has never existed. The opportunities for growth, contribution, and joy that await have never awaited anyone before. The person you have the potential to become has never drawn breath.
This should terrify us into humility and embolden us into courage.
Humility because we cannot predict what has never been. Our experience, however vast, comes from territory that has been. Our wisdom, however deep, derives from patterns we've observed before. But things that have never been don't follow old patterns.
Courage because we're not condemned to repeat the past. Your failures don't predict your future when the future has never existed. Your limitations don't constrain you when you're stepping into capacities you've never needed to develop.
The Four Dreams are fundamentally about exploration of unprecedented territory. Becoming better means charting internal landscapes you've never traversed. Making the world better means discovering solutions to problems that have never existed in this exact form. Leaving legacy means planting flags in a future you'll never see.
The map ends here.
The territory begins.
Full of things that have never been.
Welcome it like the explorer you are.
