Local Charity Highlight - Respite Care, Inc.

Updated: Feb 1, 2023

One of Purposeful Financial and Legacy Planning's key values is to support the local community. In support of that value, we will highlight a Northern Colorado charity each month. Additionally, we support that charity with a donation.

This month we are highlighting Respite Care, Inc., a Larimer County non-profit that "provides short-term, quality care for children with developmental disabilities and respite to their families, enabling them to enhance their quality of life." Respite, Inc. is a lifeline for many parents of special needs children. By providing them with safe, quality childcare at an affordable rate, these parents can take time to rest, rejuvenate, and care for the needs of their other children. Except for a few national holidays, Respite Care, Inc. is open 24 hours, 7 days a week and provides childcare before and after school, on evenings and weekends, and overnight for vacations up to 14 days. In 2022 alone, they provided just under 45,000 hours of childcare in Larimer County.

Rebecca Rogers, a friend of one of our team members, relies heavily on the services of Respite Care, Inc. and jumped at the chance to sing their praises. She wrote, "Respite Care has been an essential facility for our family. Both of our boys (5 years old and 18 months) with complex special needs and medical issues have been attending since infancy. Their dedicated attention and compassionate care for each attending child surpasses all expectations of meeting each child’s individual and specialized needs. In addition to their trained and skillful care, they go above and beyond to prepare and assist these children in exciting and fun-filled activities and expose them to hands-on educational lessons and opportunities where they can learn new skills and concepts to the extent of their abilities. They do not treat the children as if they are disabled, but as though they are no less able!"

"Many of us are in need of a safe place to leave our children, in order to hold down a job, go to school, have a date night or weekend getaway, or just simply enjoy a much needed, uninterrupted nap!" - Rebecca Rogers

With a 2:1 staffing ratio, the well-trained caregivers at Respite Care, Inc. assess each child's needs and provide specialized and individual care and attention so parents can rest assured that their children feel loved and valued while also being well-cared for.

Rebecca continued, "Respite Care is the only place that my sons have been fully welcomed, patiently cared for, supported and encouraged to work through and overcome each new challenge they encounter with age. It’s a place where they feel like they 'fit in' with their peers, are able to make deep attachments and friendships and believe that the staff is no less than their extended family! As for me, as well, they absolutely are just that! It’s a place in which my boys know they are safe and that they BELONG. Respite Care is a one-of-a-kind facility that is meeting a very large need in Larimer County with an outstanding impact in so many countless ways. . . It is the only facility in our area that provides such a service and is much deserving of the financial assistance needed to continue to keep it growing, reaching all counties in need! We are GRATEFUL as parents for all of the generous hearts that contribute to this cause!"
